16" x 20" Acrylic & Ink on Wood Panel
In the struggle against climate change and urban expansion, this conservation art painting represents a success story. The El Segundo Blue butterfly is a small butterfly that lives in the coastal dunes next to LAX airport. It was in danger of extinction until it was placed on the Endangered Species list in 1976. As a result the dunes up against LAX were preserved to ensure the butterfly's habitat. The population recovered and is thriving alongside the airport.
Created as part of a group show for Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles.
